The Shefa School is a Jewish community day school in Manhattan, serving students in grades K-8. Since opening in September 2014, Shefa has enrolled children who benefit from a specialized educational environment in order to develop their strengths while addressing their learning challenges. We specifically serve students with language-based learning disabilities who have not yet reached their potential levels of success in traditional classroom settings. Shefa is a pluralistic community school, serving families across the range of Jewish involvement and observance.
The Shefa School is seeking a full-time Art Teacher for September 2025 to teach in the Lower and Middle Schools.
The Art Teacher will collaborate with the Art Team in teaching and preparing for art classes to students in both the lower and middle school. The art teacher will design engaging curriculum, teach sections of art classes, mentor and support the art assistant teacher, as applicable. They will also order, organize, set up, and clean art materials. The arts are an important part of the school environment, so the teacher will be instrumental in displaying student work, and collaborating with classroom teachers to integrate art into subject areas, such as Judaic Studies and Social Studies, as well as perform a support role during lunch, recess and arrival/dismissal.
The ideal candidate will have experience working with children in an art setting. Experience working with students with language-based learning disabilities is a plus. We seek teachers who thrive in highly collaborative environments, who are reflective and committed to growth, who have strong communication skills, and who demonstrate a commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion.
