The Shefa School is a Jewish community day school in Manhattan serving students in grades K-8 who benefit from a specialized educational environment in order to develop their strengths while addressing their learning challenges. We specifically serve students with language-based learning disabilities who have not yet reached their potential levels of success in traditional classroom settings. The Shefa School is seeking a full-time Teacher to join the Lower School. This is a 10-month faculty position.
● Small group teaching- 2 math groups, 1 reading group
● Academic support- pulling students for extra reading or math support as needed, running select WIN groups, working with students who are pulled from Hebrew classes
● Lunch Duty- captain all or most days
● Coverage for academic classes (especially extended coverages)
● Possible maternity leave coverage as a homeroom teacher, if need arises
The ideal candidate will have a depth of training and expertise in his/her subject areas and as well as experience using multisensory instruction and experience in working with students with language-based learning disabilities. Candidates should demonstrate flexibility and comfort with risk-taking and ambiguity. We seek teachers who thrive in highly collaborative environments, who are reflective and committed to growth, who have strong communication skills, and who demonstrate a strong commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion. Applicants must have at least 3 years of teaching experience and should have or be eligible for Special Education certification and/or a relevant Master’s Degree.
